Analytical Dimensions
Political Metrics
These seven metrics are the analytical dimensions Iran Ideoscope uses to map political orientation. Each metric describes an independent axis of political thought and is interpreted on a 0-10 scale.
Political Pluralism
Scale 0-10Measures support for genuine political competition, legal opposition, the possibility of power transfer, and accountability of governing institutions to representative bodies.
Secularism
Scale 0-10Measures support for separating religious institutions from the state and public lawmaking, and for equal civic standing regardless of religion.
Cultural Liberalism
Scale 0-10Measures support for freedom in lifestyle and cultural expression, tolerance of social difference, and limited state intrusion into private life.
Economic Redistribution
Scale 0-10Measures support for reducing inequality through taxation, welfare provision, universal services, and state intervention for a fairer distribution of resources.
Market Liberalization
Scale 0-10Measures support for market competition, private ownership, privatization, deregulation, and limiting the state's role in directly managing the economy.
International Engagement
Scale 0-10Measures support for diplomacy, de-escalation, cooperation with international institutions, and broader economic and political ties with the world.
Decentralization
Scale 0-10Measures support for devolving authority and budgets to provinces, cities, and local institutions rather than concentrating decision-making in the center.
What do metrics do?
Metrics are not identity labels or value judgements. They are conceptual axes used to design the questionnaire and interpret results. The current public set is a pilot framework that makes the test structure explicit while leaving room for later validation and revision.
